It's almost impossible to put into words what the loss of Terry Pratchett from this world means to me.  Since I was a teenager, his book releases have been a punctuation to my life, and his gentle satire has been a positive force on my outlook and opinions for almost thirty years.

Whilst I'm sure that we've not seen the end of Discworld - because a property that valuable won't be allowed to die - and I'm hopeful he has left his (talented writer) daughter with plenty of notes to perhaps pick up where he left off, Terry's brilliant, compassionate and passionate mind was the heart and soul of that mad, wonderful world that sailed through space on the back of four elephants on the back of the Great A'Tuin, the World Turtle.

I can only hope that, at the end of that grey desert, he will find Iain Banks waiting for him.

"Terry, I've got this great idea..."
